Despie his ownership of such prestige First Growth Estates he is reported to have said that his heart lay with Calon Segur, hence the heart around the name on the label of each bottle. The estate has passed through a variety of owners since then and remains one of the most sought after of all Bordeaux wines. Crimson in colour with brick hues, this wine dispays superb fresh aromas in the bouquet of red and black currant, licquorice, crystallised flower petals, cedar, graphite and herbal eucalyptus notes. The palate is equally fresh and full of delicious pure clean & luscious fruit flavours underscored by a lively minerality. Deeper savoury notes of leather, iodine & tobacco mingle with hints of chocolate, brown sugar & cassis. Drinking beautifully now (2012). Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Cabernet Franc An outstanding Bordeaux and a great match for beef dishe; from simply prepared fillet steak to richly sauced boeuf Bourguignon. Rack of lamb or grilled lamb chops would also make a fantastic match as would pheasant, goose or mushroom based dishes. |
