Chapoutier began producing wines in 1808 and the winery remains within the Chapoutier family control today. The Chapoutier philosophy has always been to work with nature, their family motto is "Fac et Spera"which means do and hope, a reflection of the need for both dynamism and patience in the conquest to create their world renowned wines. The history of the Chapoutier Condrieu vineyard dates back to Roman times but for a time its future looked bleak as wine producers switched to grape varieties that were more in demand and easier to grow than Viognier in the challenging soils. Thankfully a handful of wine producers maintained production of Condrieu so we can still enjoy this top class white wine today. The nose is deliciously fruity with notes of ripe peaches, apricot & melon, in the mouth the texture is rich but not flabby with notes of spiced apple, citrus, ginger & banana leaf with a salty minerality which provides a fine backbone for the voluptuous layers of fruit. www.chapoutier.fr 100% Viognier This rare wine is a great match for fish such as halibut & salmon in a creamy sauce, lobster, pork, light cheese based pasta dishes, creamy green vegetable risotto, mild indian & thai curries, but nothing too spicy or the Condrieu will be overpowered. |
