The Bernard family purchased Domaine de Chevalier in 1983 and invested considerably in the expansion of the vineyards and also in the production processes. 1986 was an austere vintage and one most successful for Bordeaux wines with a Cabernet Sauvignon dominance, some believe the grand wines of this vintage require even further ageing for the flavours to fully develop although many are drinking beautifully now. Cassis & cedar on the nose with traces of anise, spice & smoke. Firm bodied and lean in the mouth with pronounced savoury tannins, layers of stewed plum coupled with black & red berry fruit followed by notes of cocoa, graphite &.soft peppery spice in the finish. www.domainedechevalier.com Cabernet Sauvignon 64% Merlot 30% Cabernet Franc 3% Petit Verdot 3% A traditional Bordeaux with great tannic depth that will make a fantastic match for full flavoured meaty dishes such as Steak au Poivre or a slow cooked beef casserole.
