Despie his ownership of such prestige First Growth Estates he is reported to have said that his heart lay with Calon Segur, hence the heart around the name on the label of each bottle. The estate has passed through a variety of owners since then and remains one of the most sought after of all Bordeaux wines. The 1996 vintage wines of Bordeaux are just now starting to reach their prime, classic in structure with pure fruit flavours blending seamlessly with mature tannins the wait has been worth it! The nose is classic Bordeaux all the way with clear blackcurrant, cedar, pencil lead, liquorice and mint on the nose coupled with nuances of soil & tobacco leaf. The palate is smooth and elegant with layers of backberry and above all blueberry fruit underscored by leather, spice and vegetal notes. The finish is persistent with further notes of black berry fruits, brown su gar, cocoa powder, cinammon spice and charred wood. Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Cabernet Franc A classic refined Bordeaux hat will apir wonderfully with simply prepared fine produce such as a pan fried fillet steak, grilled rack of lamb, roast chicken, goose, pheasant or quail.
