In fact it was Ferruccio Biondi Santi who was credited as being the inventor of Brunello in 1932, when after successive crises including Phyloxera struck European and also the Greppo vineyards he managed to maintain production of his fine Brunello and further enhance its quality & prestige. Made from vines of between 10-25 years minimum age it displays an intense ruby colour with garnet hues. The nose is perfumed with aromas of rose, cherry, plum & tobacco. Full and ample in the mouth yet still elegant, vibrant ripe cherry flavours combine with hints of red licorice, tar, herbal notes and white pepper. The balance of bramble fruit flavours, mellow tannins and smoky oak is wondrous, leading to a long and satisfying finish. 1997 was a great vintage and this wine is fantastic drinking now, however the flavours and depth of this wine can develop still further over the next 20 years. www.biondisanti.it 100% Sangiovese This wonderful full-flavoured rich wine deserves an equally fully flavoured food pairing.
